Problems to be noted during forging

During the forging process of titanium and titanium alloys, the following issues should be noted:

(1) Sensitivity to alloy composition. The forging properties and mechanical properties of individual titanium alloys are not greatly affected by changes in alloying elements, but are affected by changes in interstitial elements (such as oxygen, carbon and nitrogen). For example, if the oxygen content of titanium alloy increases from 0.1 to 0.2, the B transformation temperature of TC4 will increase by 40℃℃ and the strength will increase by 15%.

(2) Elimination of pollution and defects. The hard, a-rich subcutaneous layer produced by heating titanium in air is difficult to remove by mechanical processing. Depending on the heating time, the thickness of this layer is generally between 0.13 and 0.64 mm. The forging is etched in hydrofluoric acid and the surface layer is etched at 0.025 mm/min. However, when the pollution is serious, it is necessary to remove the thick phosphate scale, which requires two treatments, that is, first complete the phosphate scale removal work in the salt tank, and then complete the above-mentioned acid etching process. (3) Cleaning of equipment. Care must be taken during forging to prevent titanium from coming into contact with steel scale, otherwise a "thermal agent" type reaction will occur, destroying the forging die. Titanium reduces iron oxide in an exothermic reaction that occurs under high pressure and high temperature conditions. Because the furnace and forging equipment may be the source of steel scale, they should be thoroughly cleaned before being used to heat titanium. (4) Lubrication. The scale formed when titanium wool is heated has a great friction effect, causing the die to wear quickly, so it is necessary to use a lubricant. The lubricants used for die forging steel and other non-ferrous metals cannot meet all of the above requirements. Paste lubricants mixed with graphite, water glass and lubricating oil will cause cracks on the surface of titanium alloys. The reason is that there is a brittle layer on the surface that is destroyed during deformation. These cracks are stress concentration sources and may extend into the metal when deformation continues. For titanium alloys, glass lubricants are the best lubricants currently developed.

Under die forging and local extrusion deformation conditions, if the composition of the glass coating is properly selected, liquid friction can be maintained.

Qinhuangdao Zhongwei Precision Machinery Co., Ltd. is located in the "China Titanium Valley". Founded in 1997, it is an enterprise specializing in the research and development, design, production, processing and sales of titanium, nickel, zirconium and other non-ferrous metal products. The company has rich experience in the production and processing of non-ferrous metals (titanium, nickel, zirconium) refractory metals (tantalum, niobium, tungsten, molybdenum, chromium) and their alloy products. The company has been researching and developing with the powder research group of Beijing University of Science and Technology for 10 years. The main production and processing, metal injection molding, titanium metal injection molding, investment casting, titanium alloy investment casting and other parts.

The company adheres to the corporate spirit of "integrity and pragmatism" for survival and "innovation and quality" for development, and has won wide recognition and strong support from new and old customers.
